Noise for the Nick
WUSC and First Thursday, Columbia’s newest sensation, are throwing a “Welcome to the Neighborhood!” benefit for the Nickelodeon! We will be celebrating the Nick’s move to the new Theatre on Main. The event is free, but we will be accepting donations to go toward completing construction of the new theatre. The party will start at 6pm in the underground Fountain Room in the Tapp’s Building with the Magnetic Flowers, Sea Wolf Mutiny, Dead Surf, and Trey Mumbles.
Imagine tons of local art, great local bands, and a good cause. It’s all happening August 2nd at 6pm!
MAGNETIC FLOWERS:They follow the lyrical path of folk and take the sonic path of rock a la The Hold Steady. Occasionally, they garner comparisons to bands like Okkervil River, Dr. Dog and The Band. (http://www.myspace.com/magneticflowers)
SEA WOLF MUTINY: four piece Indie rock band based out of Columbia, SC. The Sea Wolf Mutiny has fused a Indie Folk sound to ecstatic rock. From their first house shows to their CD release of “The Last Season” their sound has been characterized by a tumble and swagger infused with a tenacious and belligerent joy that is as contagious as it is catchy. DEAD SURF: Combining catchy pop hooks with intertwining male and female vocal harmonies, these surf-inspired jams are perfect for any spontaneous road-trip to the beach, or equally spontaneous liquor run. (http://deadsurf.bandcamp.com/)
TREY MUMBLES: One third of local Columbia’s Young Mumbles, Trey Murphy will rock your world. With a voice like a young Neil Young and some of the most intricate songwriting of our time, Trey sings songs that blur the lines of americana, rock, and annoyingly cute.
